Friday Morning’s Weather Briefing — August 7, 2026
Good Friday Morning! Here are some highlights for the day(s) ahead:
We are seeing some areas of dense fog this morning through parts of central and eastern Newfoundland. See if it’s gotten any better when you’re reading this by using the road camera page!
Temperatures are into the teens across the board this morning.
Skies will clear across much of the Island through the morning and fog will retreat to coastal areas along and near the north-facing and east-facing shores.
There will be scattered showers and possible thunderstorms in Labrador from later this morning until this evening.
There will also be scattered showers later today along the Northern Peninsula.
Highs reach the teens to upper 20s across the Province today.

Newfoundland Today
Much of the fog across eastern and central Newfoundland this morning should retreat to the coast over the next few hours, revealing plenty of blue sky. The question is how far inland it will retreat. Today could be one of those days when it stays foggy right along the east- and north-facing shorelines, while just a few kilometres inland it’s sunny. The difference between a place like Outer Cove and CBS could be significant. Meanwhile, the GNP, the West Coast and all south-facing shores will see abundant sunshine today. Highs will range from the middle teens near the north- and east-facing shores, where the onshore northerly wind will keep things cooler, to the middle and upper 20s farther west and south in the offshore flow. Areas in between will see temperatures in between. I should also mention a few showers are possible on the Northern Peninsula and, later this afternoon, on parts of the West Coast as far south as Rocky Harbour and the Bay of Islands area.
Labrador Today
Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies across the Big Land today as a weak trough/frontal boundary moves into the area. This will spark off some showers this morning and more widespread showers and possible thunderstorms this afternoon. Forecasts indicate much of this activity will be focused in the southeast corner of Labrador, with the showers approaching the Strait of Belle Isle and Quebec’s Lower North Shore later this afternoon or early evening. Highs reach the teens and 20s today.
Regional Highlight
Heat warnings are up for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with highs in the low 30s and humidex values near 38 today and tomorrow and Sunday. If you’re looking to find the heat, it’s across the Cabot Strait!
