A PROVINCE WIDE FIRE BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL JULY 17 ....
Good Friday Morning! Here are some highlights on the day(s) ahead:
A cutoff low over Labrador will continue to keep the weather unsettled across much of NL today. The jet stream pattern (image above) shows this well.
An area of showers is moving across parts of eastern and central Newfoundland this morning and will clear the area in the next couple of hours.
Another area of showers will develop over the Avalon and some adjacent areas later this morning and move out by early afternoon.
Outside of the showers, expect a mix of sun and cloud across the Island today, with highs in the teens to low 20s.
More widespread showers and rain will be found in Labrador today, with highs generally in the teens to near 20ºC,

We are looking at a few showers moving over eastern, central and southern Newfoundland this morning. They arrived on the south and southwest coast last night and will move off the northeast/east coast within the next few hours. Some of the rain within this area of showers is quite heavy, but it will not last long. The animation below shows the radar loop over the last 3 hours ending at 6:30 AM this morning.
Newfoundland Today
Shower chances will linger over eastern areas and the Avalon until the afternoon, at which point most of the activity should move offshore and be done with. Outside of the showers, expect a mix of sun and cloud across the Island with highs in the upper teens to lower 20s. We are seeing some pockets of fog in the south, and that will be part of today’s forecast as winds are from the west or west-southwest.
Labrador Today
The cutoff low sitting over the Big Land will continue to bring cool, damp and unsettled weather to the area. Expect numerous showers, lots of clouds, a few peaks of sun, especially in the southeast, and highs only reaching the teens to near 20ºC.
Looking Ahead
Saturday looks a bit less active across the Province as the Labrador low finally begins to depart. Sunday, on the other hand, will be a different story as another system moves in. This will spread areas of rain, showers and thunderstorms across much of the Province into Monday. The Island will clear out, but showers will linger in the Big Land. The weather looks much better by Tuesday… when a more summer-like weather pattern settles into the region.
My next update will be posted later today!
