Fog and drizzle make a return to NL as we close out the week

A unsettled stretch of weather is shaping up for Newfoundland and Labrador over the coming days, with fog, rain, and eventually some significant wind all in the forecast.

Fog will be the first concern, particularly for east-facing shores of the Avalon and Bonavista peninsulas. It'll be patchy at first, but expect it to become more widespread (meaing more than just eastern areas) heading into the weekend — especially along the coast of Labrador, where it could impact air operations.

A couple of areas of low pressure will keep things showery through the weekend across much of the island and into Labrador, though western and central areas will see some breaks of sunshine between systems. Temperatures will be seasonable — generally ranging from the upper single digits in the east to the lower teens inland.

The bigger story arrives Sunday night into Monday, when an intense low tracking out of the Mid-Atlantic brings the potential for rain and wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h for southern and eastern Newfoundland, including the Avalon, Burin, and Bonavista peninsulas. It's a pattern we saw repeatedly through the winter, and it's worth keeping a close eye on if you have outdoor plans or travel early in the week.

The good news: once that system clears, the middle of next week looks much nicer, with spring-like temperatures returning and no snow in sight.

The next forecast drops bright and early Friday morning!
