It was a chilly start this morning in parts of central and western Newfoundland, with Badger hitting -1.2ºC — the first official freeze of the season. Thankfully, tonight won’t be quite as cold.

Across Labrador, showers continue in the west, while Newfoundland remains mostly clear for now. That won’t last long, though. A system tracking from the Maritimes will spread rain into southeastern Newfoundland by midday Thursday, bringing the chance of heavy rainfall across parts of the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas through the afternoon and evening.

By Thursday night into Friday, southeastern Labrador will also see rain, with a touch of wet snow possible in the higher terrain of the Mealy Mountains. Friday itself looks unsettled and breezy across much of Newfoundland, with northerly winds and scattered showers. The good news? Conditions should clear for a much quieter weekend overall.

Rainfall Outlook:

  • Central & Eastern Newfoundland: 5–20 mm expected

  • Trepassey area: locally higher totals, up to 60 mm possible

  • Southeastern Labrador: 10–20 mm from Goose Bay to Rigolet Point

Looking ahead, temperatures across much of the province will stay below seasonal, with a stubborn jet stream keeping warmth at bay. St. John’s may struggle to reach 20ºC again this season, with the next shot at it perhaps on Tuesday. Until then, it will feel much more like September than late summer.

Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t forget you can always check the Sheerr Weather app or website for road webcams, the live radar, and the Map Room for a closer look at conditions across the province.
