Kingston Fire

Overnight, the Kingston wildfire grew to an estimated 6,370 hectares. Ground crews will continue working on fuel breaks at the southern boundary, while another fuel break is being constructed in the Northern Bay area. This marks the third attempt to establish a northern fuel break, as rapid fire growth and extreme fire behaviour have pushed crews farther north each time.

Air assets will be in the Kingston area today, with ground crews and local fire departments continuing suppression efforts.

As with the Holyrood, Chance Harbour, and Musgrave Harbour fires, the Kingston fire is less than 100 km by air from the Paddy’s Pond fire. This allows resources to be moved quickly as directed by fire behaviour specialists and the operations team.

Paddy’s Pond Fire

The Paddy’s Pond fire remains very active. Air assets, ground crews, and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department are responding continuously today. Fuel break construction is underway this morning in the Three Arm Pond area.

Highway Closure: The Trans-Canada Highway remains closed between the Cloverleaf (Pitts Memorial Drive/Outer Ring Road) and Exit 39 (Foxtrap Access Road).

Martin Lake Fire

The Martin Lake wildfire saw minimal growth and is now approximately 290 hectares. Crews are working the southwest edge today, with equipment moving to the northern edge to build a fuel break. 802 air tractors and bucketing helicopters will provide aerial suppression.

Holyrood Fire

The Holyrood fire remains Under Control, holding at 22 hectares. Minimal fire behaviour has been observed. The fire is fully contained with hose lines in place. Crews, supported by local fire departments, are addressing any hotspots. Search and Rescue continues to scan for flare-ups.

Labrador

The fire located 20 km south of Goose Bay did not grow overnight and remains 0.5 hectares in size. Ground crews from Happy Valley-Goose Bay will continue work today.
