Wildfire Update | August 10, 2025
According to a Facebook update posted at 11:30 by Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture, Newfoundland and Labrador, wildfire suppression teams are preparing for another challenging day in the fight against multiple fires across the province.
Kingston Fire: Still Out of Control
“The Kingston fire remains out of control,” the department reported. “Windy conditions, combined with an Extreme Fire Weather Index, are expected to continue to contribute to extreme fire behaviour and growth again today.”
Latest boundary mapping shows the fire has grown to just over 4,895 hectares, primarily along the northern boundary at the edge of Western Bay. “The fire is anticipated to move towards Ochre Pit Cove by this evening,” officials added.
Resources on the scene include four water bombers, four helicopters, ground crews, and heavy equipment. “A 20-person crew from Ontario and additional air support from Quebec arrived to assist yesterday. Coast Guard helicopters are assisting to enhance operational capacity.”
Holyrood Fire: Being Held
The Holyrood fire remains at 22 hectares. “No growth has been reported. The fire is classified as Being Held, with minimal fire behavior observed and the fire fully contained with hose lines,” the post stated. Crews continue to work on the fire, and residents are urged to use caution on nearby roads and properties.
In the Martin Lake area, “two water bombers and a bird dog aircraft will provide aerial support with ground crews today. Crews are focusing on the southwestern edge and cabin areas.” Officials confirm there is no impact on Route 360 this morning.
Labrador Fires
The fire reported August 9 on the Grand Lake forest access road system north of Happy Valley-Goose Bay “has been declared out.”
Another wildfire, located 19 km south of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, east of the Trans-Labrador Highway, is now being assessed. “Helicopters and ground crew are responding. Both fires appear to be caused by lightning,” the update said.
