🌨️ Rain Moves Out, Snow for Labrador
The system that borught the heavy rain yesterday has now pushed off Newfoundland and into Labrador, where snow continues to fall. The view from Churchill Falls this afternoon showed steady flakes, with low pressure swirling over the Big Land. Conditions there should improve overnight and into Thursday.
Meanwhile on the island, showers linger over the Avalon Peninsula and west coast, but the overall trend is toward clearing skies.
🌌 Aurora Alert Tonight
A strong geomagnetic storm continues to impact Earth’s atmosphere tonight — with KP values near 7, meaning all of Newfoundland and Labrador could see the Northern Lights if skies clear.
Viewing looks best between 8 PM and midnight, with the clearest skies over the Avalon, central, and west coast regions. Step outside, look north, and find a dark spot away from city lights for your best chance.
If activity ramps up, I’ll send a push alert through the Sheerr Weather app — so make sure you have it downloaded!
☔ Next Round of Weather
Thursday starts calm, but another system will move into eastern Newfoundland late in the day, spreading rain and wet snow back across the island Thursday night. A second low follows Friday, bringing more widespread rain.
Rainfall forecast (through Saturday morning):
Avalon & Burin Peninsulas: 30–60 mm
Central & west coast: 20–40 mm
Labrador: Light snow and mixed precipitation
Higher terrain inland may see up to 10–15 cm of snow Thursday night into Friday morning.
🌤️ Weekend Outlook
Things calm down a bit by Saturday. Expect a mix of sun and cloud with a few west coast showers, while Labrador sees periods of snow and rain. Overall, the weekend looks cooler but quieter.
I’ll have my next update posted over the weekend.
