Wednesday Morning Weather Update — December 17, 2025

Good Wednesday morning!

We are off to a superb start out there for many, with readings on the Island in the minus single digits and minus teens, and some parts of Labrador in the minus teens and minus 20s at this hour (6 AM). Temperatures today recover nicely, and most areas will see highs a few degrees on either side of freezing. Obviously, it’ll be warmer on the Island compared to Labrador.

While it will be calmer today, that doesn’t mean we won't have weather. There will be some light snow pushing through Labrador this morning, reaching the coast by midday. Western areas of the Island will see rain showers or light snow move in later this afternoon. That’s especially true for western regions and the Northern Peninsula.

The animation below times out the arrival of the light precipitation quite well as the day progresses, as a weak system moves through from west to east.

The forecast for tomorrow looks pretty decent on the Island and much colder in the Big Land behind a cold front that will move through tonight. Highs reach the single digits above freezing on the Island and minus teens for daytime maximums in most of Labrador.

The next weather maker arrives Friday, and that will be one that tracks into Quebec and Labrador. The translation is this will be a warm one and to expect rain and a big warm up over much f NL between Friday and Saturday. Beyond that, it does look like another cool shot is en route for Christmas week.

I’ll have more forecast details for you this afternoon!

I’ll have my next update posted later today!
