Wednesday Morning Weather Brief — September 17, 2025
Good Wednesday morning!
We are waking up to some cool temperatures across the Province this morning. Readings are coolest in northern Labrador, near 6º in Nain and warmest in Corner Brook and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, near 11º, as of 5:48 AM NDT (5:18 AM ADT).
This morning’s update is sponsored by Roebothan, McKay, and Marshall.

Today’s forecast shows rain moving into northern Labrador this morning, before becoming heavy at times along the north coast this afternoon. The rain on the coast may impact air operations from Hopedale to Nain and farther north, particularly later today (if flights are scheduled then).
The system driving that rain will also bring a surge of warm air that will be felt over much of Labrador and parts of the Island today (and tomorrow). Temperatures will soar into the 20s in Labrador West this afternoon. In fact, there may be some new daily records set in both Labrador City (23.3º | 1968) and Churchill Falls (21.1º | 2024) today.
Clouds will try to hang tight for coastal Labrador, the Northern Peninsula, parts of central (near the coast), the Bonavista and Avalon Peninsulas. However, the farther southeast one goes, the less cloud there will be to contend with. In fact, on the Avalon, the line of clouds may be quite sharp today. Sharp enough that Petty Harbour may be in the sun, while the Metro is in the cloud cover.
We are looking at a warmup tomorrow… and quite possibly St. John’s 80th day with a high of at least 20º in 2025. If we get that tomorrow, 2025 would set the record for most days with a high of at least 20º in St. John’s in a given year at the current record location, the airport. Data goes back as far as 1942.
I’ll have a more detailed look at tomorrow’s forecast, and much more, in my afternoon update.
Have a great Wednesday!
