Good Tuesday Morning!
Here are today’s highlights:
Temps are in the single digits above freezing as we start the day across the Province.
Rain is falling over parts of western and southern Newfoundland as of just after 6 AM.
Rain, drizzle and fog are in the forecast (eventually) for parts of the West Coast, Central, and eastern Newfoundland today, while the showers end in Labrador. The rain and showers will end on the Island this evening.
The fog will be dense along parts of the southern shore and east-facing shores of the Burin Peninsula, and perhaps along the South Coast today into tonight. A lot will lift by Wednesday morning as some drier air moves in.
Newfoundland's forecast for today - May 26, 2026
Newfoundland Today
An area of low pressure will move from near the Cabot Strait this morning to southeast of the Avalon this afternoon, passing near or south of the South Coast during the day. This low will bring periods of rain, drizzle and fog to western, southern and eastern Newfoundland today into this evening and tonight. The fog will be dense in some areas, especially along the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula. The combination of this low-pressure system to our south and an area of high pressure to the north will provide a solid northeast fetch, which will keep temperatures in the lower to mid single digits for much of the Island today. Wind speeds over the Burin and Avalon Peninsulas will ramp up during the day and become sustained around 30 to 40 km/h. While that doesn’t sound like much, it will make temperatures feel near freezing.
The weather will improve overnight and into Wednesday morning. It appears as though we may see a pocket of dry air rotate over the Island tomorrow, which will lift any fog and perhaps even bring a bit of sunshine to eastern areas before we settle back into the RDF on Thursday. Areas of interior, southern and western Newfoundland will see some pretty nice weather over the next few days.
Wreckhouse Wind Warning - Today
Wreckhouse Wind Warning as of May 25, 2026 @ 6:30 AM NDT
A Wreckhouse Wind Warning is in effect until this afternoon. Southeast winds will gust as high as 130 km/h. Driving conditions will likely be difficult. High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Disruptions to services and travel are possible.
Labrador's forecast for today - May 26, 2026
Labrador Today
Showers will end in the west later today. Otherwise expect cloudy to mostly cloudy skies across the Big Land. Highs reach the single digits in the south, to near 10ºC in the north and the lower to mid-teens from Goose Bay back to Labrador West. There will be some fog along the Straits, but for much of the coast, there should be some sunny breaks by the afternoon. The West may not be as lucky.
I’ll have an updated forecast for the remainder of the week posted later today!
