NL Temps as of 6:16 AM NDT

This morning is bringing a cool and breezy start across eastern and northeastern Newfoundland, with temperatures already sitting between seven and nine degrees for many eastern areas. Most of the island is following suit, though inland spots like Badger and Deer Lake are dipping to two and three degrees respectively. Portage Lake remains the island's only below-freezing location this morning, as of 5:30 AM the observed temperature there was -0.6ºC. Up in Labrador, coastal areas are starting cool, but inland it's quite warm already—Churchill Falls is up to fourteen degrees as of 5 AM ADT.

Cloud-wise, it's sunny across virtually all of Newfoundland this morning, with only a bit of fog along the Bay d'Espoir Highway. Labrador is seeing a sunny start in many areas, though cloud cover is building—a sign of things to come.

Labrador’s forecast for today - June 23, 2026.

Today’s thunderstorm risk in Labrador - June 23, 2026.

Today, Labrador highs are climbing into the single digits and teens on the coast, with teens to twenties inland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially along and south of the Trans-Labrador Highway from Goose Bay to Wabush, with some storms producing locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning

The island is looking beautiful today, with highs climbing into the teens and twenties.

Newfoundland's forecast for today - June 23, 2026.

That changes tomorrow when a fairly intense area of low pressure arrives. Rain starts moving into western and southwestern Newfoundland overnight, then spreads across the rest of the island on Wednesday. This looks to bring fairly intense rainfall, with Wednesday afternoon and night being the heaviest before it pulls away Thursday, though showers may linger in the east into Thursday.

Wind will be a factor too. Offshore, sustained winds are gusting to twenty-five to thirty knots, and the Wreckhouse area could see gusts well over one hundred kilometres per hour through much of Wednesday. I’ll have more details on this in my afternoon/evening forecast.

My next update will be posted later today!
