St. John’s broke an all-time record as colder air looms in the forecast!
It was a beautiful day right across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Western Newfoundland: Sunshine dominated, as seen in a gorgeous time-lapse from Corner Brook.
Eastern Newfoundland: While not quite as bright, skies were still pleasant, highlighted by sunshine over the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club.
That sunshine helped temperatures soar into the upper teens and even mid-20s across much of the island. In fact, St. John’s reached 22.4°C, marking the 80th day in 2025 with a high of at least 20°C. That breaks the previous record of 79 such days, set in both 2012 and 2022.

Tonight and Friday
While Labrador also enjoyed warm temperatures today, cooler air is moving in from the north. Already this evening, Churchill Falls and Cartwright were down to 9°C.
Tonight: Lows near 1°C in northern and western Labrador, milder in the east and southeast. Teens for lows on the Island.
Friday: Showers arrive in western Newfoundland by morning and spread eastward through the day, reaching the Avalon by afternoon.
By evening, cooler air sweeps in from the west. Temperatures will drop quickly behind the front:
Mid-teens in central/western areas by late afternoon
Single digits for the GNP and parts of Labrador
Snow in Labrador?
Yes — snow! Labrador West could see flurries/rain showers beginning Friday morning, becoming more widespread through the evening.
Friday night into Saturday morning: 1–2 cm of slushy accumulation possible in the higher terrain near Wabush and Lab City.
Eastern Quebec & western Labrador: Light snow will mix with rain by Saturday afternoon.
On the island, the only chance of flakes will be at the highest peaks of Gros Morne National Park, where a dusting or graupel is possible. Valleys and lower elevations will remain snow-free.
Weekend Outlook
Newfoundland: Highs in the low to mid-teens Saturday and Sunday. Breezy but with intervals of sunshine.
Labrador: A taste of fall Friday–Saturday, then a rebound with milder air on Sunday.
With October just around the corner, snow in Labrador shouldn’t come as a surprise — but it’s certainly a shift from today’s record warmth!
