Provincial Fire Update as of August 6, 2025

Wildfires continue to impact several communities across Newfoundland and Labrador this evening, with multiple fires still active and growing in size. A province-wide fire ban remains in effect as crews work around the clock to protect lives and property.

Small Point–Adam’s Cove–Blackhead–Broad Cove, Kingston, Western Bay, and Perry’s Cove Fire
The wildfire in this region remains very active. Tuesday night, winds shifted from easterly to southerly, pushing the fire west and southwest. As of Wednesday morning, the fire was approximately 1,432 hectares in size—double what it was yesterday. The fire likely grew in size today based on the smoke that was coming from it.

The fire near Holyrood remains active, but containment efforts have been effective. The perimeter has held, and the fire size remains at 22 hectares. Today, ground crews are continuing suppression efforts by digging into hot spots. A helicopter and water bombers will assist as needed.

Martin Lake and Great Rattling Brook Fire
This wildfire, currently estimated at 190 hectares, was actioned by a helicopter and ground crews throughout yesterday evening.
Today, an Incident Management Team is being deployed, with continued suppression efforts including one water bomber, three helicopters, and additional ground crews. Sprinkler protection is being established in cabin areas to aid in structure protection.
Residents in the area should be prepared for possible road closures and are encouraged to monitor official channels for updates.
