Monday Morning’s Weather Update — March 9, 2026

Good Monday Morning!

Here are today’s weather highlights:

  • Yesterday’s low is departing, and the weather across most of NL will be quiet and sort of mild today.

  • Highs reach the single digits above freezing on the island and near freezing to just below in Labrador.

  • Flurries will end on the West Coast later this morning

  • Light snow and flurries will move into Labrador West later today.

  • A Yellow Level Wind Warning is in effect for the Northern Peninsula tomorrow, for gusts as high as 100 km/h from the southwest

Today’s Forecast

A. mix of sun and cloud this morning will give way to sunny skies this afternoon over the Island portion of the Province. High temperatures will reach the single digits for most areas. While it will be a little breezy, it will be overly windy for most areas. That being said, winds will ‘freshen’ this afternoon and evening along the West Coast.

Newfoundland’s forecast for March 9, 2026

Labrador will see more clouds than sun today as another low begins to move in from Quebec. Snow will return to the west later this afternoon, and a few centimetres will fall from near Lab City to Goose Bay overnight. The coast will see the snow arrive late tonight, from near Rigolet points south, but it may be mixed with rain in some areas.

Labrador’s forecast for March 9, 2026

The area of low pressure moving through Labrador later today into tonight will depart tomorrow. As it moves away, it will intensify, and a core of high winds will form along the west and southern flanks of the low. This area of high winds will affect coastal Labrador from near Black Tickle to the straits and then further south onto Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula. Wind warnings are in effect for the GNP, but nothing yet for Labrador… however, I think there will be some issues for the area as peak winds will likely exceed 100 km/h during the mid part of Tuesday. The image below shows the expected peak wind gusts tomorrow.
