Environment Canada Issues Frost Advisory for Early Monday Morning
Frost Advisory for Newfoundland on the night of September 27 into 28, 2026
A Frost Advisory has been issued by Environment Canada for a large portion of Newfoundland from late tonight into early Monday morning.
The advisory includes:
Burin Peninsula
Clarenville and vicinity
Bonavista Peninsula
Terra Nova
Bonavista North
Gander and vicinity
Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity
Green Bay - White Bay
Bay of Exploits
Deer Lake - Humber Valley
Corner Brook and vicinity
Gros Morne
Parson's Pond - Hawke's Bay
Northern Peninsula East
Bay St. George
Burgeo - Ramea
Connaigre
Patchy frost is expected to develop overnight as skies clear and winds diminish. The greatest risk will be in low-lying areas, where temperatures are most likely to fall below freezing.
Overnight lows are expected to range from around +2°C to -2°C, with the coldest readings occurring in sheltered and low-lying locations. Temperatures will generally bottom out shortly before sunrise Monday morning.

Protecting Plants from Frost
If you still have sensitive plants outdoors, cover them before sunset to help trap some of the day’s warmth near the ground. Sheets, blankets and frost cloth work well, while plastic should not be placed directly against plant leaves. Potted plants can be moved indoors, into a garage or another sheltered location if possible.
If the soil is dry, a light watering earlier in the day may also help. Moist soil holds and releases more heat overnight than very dry soil, which can provide a little extra protection during a light frost.
Frost advisories are issued when widespread frost or freezing temperatures are expected during the growing season.
