A Quiet End to the Week, But the Weekend Brings Change
Venture Credit Union is currently offering a 4.99 percent promotional rate on loans for vehicles, powersports, and more. Please see one of our four branches in Glovertown, Twillingate, Gambo, or Catalina for details.
After a calmer stretch across Newfoundland and Labrador on Wednesday, the quiet trend continues into Thursday and Friday. The weekend, however, is shaping up to be a different story—especially for central and western Newfoundland.
Tonight’s Lows
The coldest temperatures overnight will be found in western Labrador, where lows dip to between –2 and –5°C.
Along the coast, it won’t be quite as chilly.
Across Newfoundland, lows fall between 0 and 3°C, with the coldest readings in central and low-lying inland areas.
Thursday: Sunshine for Many
Thursday looks bright for a large portion of Newfoundland. The exception will be the west coast and Northern Peninsula, where more cloud cover persists.
Labrador sees temperatures from –3°C in the west to +3 or +4°C in the east, with a bit of a breeze along parts of the coast. Scattered flurries linger in the north and west, but most areas start the day fairly calm.
By Thursday night, skies clear across much of the island, setting up a beautiful Friday.
Friday: A Gorgeous Day for Most
Friday continues the quiet pattern:
Newfoundland highs: 4–6°C for many areas
Corner Brook: near 5°C
St. John’s, Bonavista, Placentia, Trepassey: around 6°C
Fogo Island: near 4°C
Labrador: –1 to +4°C
The only exception will be light snow developing late-day around Labrador City and Wabush.
Weekend System: A More Active Setup
A developing low over eastern Quebec and western Labrador will bring a round of wet weather to the island this weekend.
Saturday
Central & Western Newfoundland: Widespread rain
Eastern Newfoundland: Mostly dry during the day
Labrador: Periods of snow for many areas
North Coast Labrador: A swath of potentially significant snowfall late Saturday into early Sunday
Sunday
Rain arrives in eastern Newfoundland.
Central/west may see rain ending as wet snow early Sunday morning as colder air slips in behind the front.
Snow continues in parts of Labrador, especially north and west of Goose Bay, before pushing toward the north coast mid-morning and tapering off by afternoon.
We’re still a few days out, so details may shift slightly, but this is the general setup as it stands.
Any Pattern Change Coming?
Not really—at least not right away.
The 10-day temperature trend for the Northeast Avalon shows a steady pattern with no major warmups or cooldowns. Most of the island looks similar.
For Labrador, the west stays below freezing through much of next week, with a possible cooldown late in the period as daytime highs turn a little colder and overnight lows drop off more sharply.
