TODAY’S OUTLOOK
Showers this morning on the Avalon will move offshore before 7 AM. Beyond that, the majority of the day looks quiet. However, I expect some afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop over southwestern Newfoundland, like over the interior, that will head toward the northeast, toward central, this afternoon. Winds pick up out of the south and will gust near 30 to 40 km/h, and combined with the humidity, it's going to feel closer to 30°C in for areas away from the onshore flow. Labrador stays unsettled along the coast, especially up around Nain, while Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Labrador West trend drier and milder. No marine warnings are up, but if you're on the water, expect a persistent onshore breeze and patches of reduced visibility in showers and fog along exposed coasts.

Here's the regional rundown. The Avalon and eastern Newfoundland start with rain this morning that tapers to cloud with just a slight chance of a shower by afternoon — highs 19 to 21, with the muggiest, warmest air well away from the water and cooler readings right along the Southern Shore where onshore flow holds on longer.
Central is the pick of the Island today — clouds give way to sun and highs climb to the 23 to 25 range, with the Northeast Coast a touch cooler and foggier where the wind comes off the water. There will be some showers in the area this afternoon/evning and possibly a thunderstorm.
The West Coast is the warmest spot in the province, with highs nearing 24 to 26 under a mix of sun and afternoon showers, while Stephenville and the Bay St. George run a bit cooler and breezier at 20 to 22 with a better shot at showers and possible thunderstorms this afternoon.
The South Coast, around Burgeo and Hermitage, sits mostly cloudy with highs 18 to 20. The Southwest Coast is similar — 18 to 20 with a chance of showers developing this afternoon, and the usual gusty flow to watch for if you're driving through.
The Northern Peninsula and the Straits are mostly cloudy, with highs of 18 to 20, and rain moving in more seriously tomorrow.
In Labrador, it's a big spread today — Happy Valley-Goose Bay is downright warm with highs 24 to 26 and just a stray shower or thunderstorm possible, Labrador West sits a bit cooler in the upper teens to low 20s with a similar isolated shower risk, and the North Coast around Nain is the outlier, stuck in steady rain and highs only 11 to 13. I do expect some afternoon storms between Rigolet and Cartwright, so keep an eye on the sky if you’re in that area.
